The answer is yes, canaries produce a good amount of droppings as well as feathers when shedding.
It is normal for pets to not be fully aware when they have to go about their business. They don’t have the same brain size as us humans, which allows us to be aware when we have to go to the toilet.
If you keep your birds in a cage, they will likely defecate in that cage rather than all over the house. However, any canary owner will know that you cannot leave your pet there 24/7. This is why it’s important to let her out every now and then…and that’s where the risk comes in.
How often do canaries poop?
It varies from species to species, and the size of your canary really plays a role. It wouldn’t be a bad judgment to say this about every 10 to 15 minutes. Medium to older canaries may be able to hold it for about 20 minutes, but that really depends.
The best advice I can give, is to note how often your canary does this, this is simply the most accurate and appropriate method of checking. From this estimate, you can take precautionary measures to ensure that you can keep your home safe.
From the evidence we’ve seen, yes… Canaries love to poop over the house.
Also, canary poop gives us some ideas about other potential health issues with the feathered friend, as I’ve already described.
